About the Book

God utilizes ordinary moments to create extraordinary events.

Time after time, author Hilary Jones Rojo has seen God take her seemingly ordinary experiences and transform them into divine displays of His love, grace, and power. In Close Encounters of the Heavenly Kind you’ll read of her trip to Africa, where she was help captive and taken advantage of on her way to Gambia; her excursion by mule to the leper colony on Molokai; her summer of service in a Chicago homeless shelter; her travels to Malta, where the apostle Paul was shipwrecked; and many other fascinating journeys and adventures. Whether touring an ancient cathedral, spending Christmas in Bethlehem, or dealing with demonic oppression down under, Rojo has seen God’s hand, healing, guiding, illuminating, and protecting. Close Encounters of the Heavenly Kind is her testament to God’s faithfulness and redemption in her life and in the lives of those around her.

This book was such a fast read for me...think Catholic Roller Coaster. It was at times funny, ironic, heart stopping drama but never for one second dull. If you are experiencing dryness in your faith life, this is a book for you. It inspires you to know
that as long as you are open to God's graces you will be able to see the abundance of all the He pours into a soul that desires to know Him. I heard this beautiful quote from my parish priest the other day during his homily. "If you are feeling like God is
not beside you....guess who moved?!" This is perfect for a beginner learning about the faith, one already immersed in the practice of the faith but seeking yet to go deeper and one who misguidedly thinks "they have arrived". Whenever I read or watch anything
I have wasted my time on I will usually reflect..."well, that's two hours I will never get back". Read Hilary's book, Close Encounters of the Heavenly Kind...it's like a mini-vacation with our Lord...time well spent. Perfect for an afternoon sipping iced tea,
warm cocoa by the fire or a that luxurious indulgence we need once in awhile....reading in a cozy bed on a lazy Saturday morning. This would also make a great gift for a friend or a family member who needs a nudge in heavenly direction....if you know what
I mean.

I really enjoyed your book. You appear to have a close connection with God and His Holy Angels. You write very well and make your book interesting and very fun to read. May you continue to have more adventures that you will share with us. God bless you
and Mac. May God be your guide you with your travels, keep all your adventures safe and hopefully you will write many more books.

Hilary, read your book from cover to cover in one day because I couldn't put it down! As I have the pleasure of knowing you and Mac, the book is so you, I loved it & will hand it out to other friends. I remember having brunch with you all before your trip
to Medjugorje. You certainly were stubborn about it, but God prevailed and look what He's done for you. I'm so glad Medjugorje brought you both into my life. I'm always in awe of how God has changed both of you and how much you both love Him. Thank you for
being my friends. Love & God Bless - Patti Hobin

Hilary, It is truly amazing to me that our brief intersection many years ago has created such a powerful place for you in my heart! I became centered and still reading Close Encounters of The Heavenly Kind which immersed me both in your spirituality and
your reality. It translated faith in a powerful way! It is an experiential connection to a strong faith which kept me intrigued and curious. Your writing has empowered me and there are several places I would like to walk in your footsteps but I have to admit
your mule steps might not be for me! I am particularly drawn to your Malta experience and the historical perspective. Also, the Island of Molokai and the description of the feminine church you found there. I have always perceived churches to be masculine however;
I did not fully understand that sensation prior to your description of the church built by the Nuns on the island of Molokai which I intend to see some day! While I read your travels to the Leper Colony it brought me back to a high school experience I had
which left a mark on my soul. I lived in New Orleans during my high school years and had the opportunity to lead a group discussion after a field trip to Carville Louisiana and report on the Leper Colony there. I also enjoyed the cliff hangers and am anxiously
awaiting your next publication!!! God bless and keep you, Lauren Patterson PS I’ll be ordering four more books from you for four dear friends!!
